It was June 2018 when in a warm night in Venice I heard live for the first time Savana Funk. Many people that evening didn’t know what to expect from the gig, they were there just because it was a pleasure staying outdoor in a beautiful little square in Venice, getting a drink or two and listening to some live music. Well…that common Thursday night turned into a really pure funky experience! Savana Funk is a multicultural band based in Bologna and leaded by the guru of guitar Aldo Betto who at some point of his carrier met two young great musician and among them there was an immediate music feeling. These guys are Blake Franchetto, a super smooth bass player from London, and Youssef Ait Bouazza, a Berber drummer who definitely have the rhythm in his soul. Their music connection seemed spontaneous since the first played track, and without using any word they can bring you in any corner of the known world with guitar, bass and drum, the ABC of a band. Their basically funk style approach turns sometimes and somehow in a kind of dreamy post-rock hybrid sound like, for example, in the song called "Nora", sometimes has echoes of African music like in "Timbuktu Calling" and "Zahra" or a jazz mood as in the track “Bubble Art”.
Here is a video of that night in Venice but for a more in-depth listening we suggest any of their album: “Musica Analoga”,” Savana Funk” and 2018 “Bring in The New” and first of all we suggest to see them live 'cause they are one of the best music reality based in Italy.
Let the groove be with you!
