“Chatka” probably is the greatest record released by Riccardo Zappa, an italian talented guitarist that deals with classic guitars, 6&12 strings guitars and electric guitars enhanced with astonishing sound FX !
He took lessons from Miguel Abloniz (a Greece-born guitarist who established in Milan in the late 50s) and during his thirty-years career he experimented sound mixes between guitar and other electronic instruments, ranged from classical music to the deepest electro psyched-out tunes. According to the influential “Guitar Club” magazine, he was the best italian guitarist act for 5 years in a row! GREAT!
“Chatka” is a release with a packed, wise and mature sound, with a miraculous turnover between acoustic and electric cuts, and we cannot forget the band behind Zappa: Tullio de Piscopo on drums, Julius Farmer on bass guitar and Vince Tempera on keyboards ! Each one is a top italian musician in his instrument!
From “Chatka” i’ve pulled out the track called “La Chitarra a Pila”, that closes the Side A: it’s the perfect union of the double souls of the entire LP, the acoustic and the electronic one. An outstanding tune you’ll never forget...let yourself get carried away by the space strings of Riccardo Zappa!
