Soon or later every good music addicted get in touch with one of this two milestones of music history: Bitches Brew by Miles Davies and Abraxas by Carlos Santana, both relased in 1970. What links these two records at first sight is their artwork by Mati Klarwein. Born in Hamburg in 1932 by a Jewish family, and for obvious reasons forced to take refuge in Palestine, since the age of two, he continued his youth in Paris, where he completed his education as a painter and finally arrived in New York where he merged his art to music inextricably. Carlos Santana choosed Mati’s painting Annonciation after several hours spent tripping out in profound meditation into Aleph Sanctuary, a temple-like building consisting of 78 paintings from Mati's production. In the same period Miles Davies asked Mati to create the artwork of the masterpiece that changed the history of jazz: Bitches Brew.
Surrealist, tribal, ancestral, psychedelic, Mati’s creativity visualized many other Lp of great value that need to be carefully listened; among these include “New Generation” by Chambers Brothers (1970), “Blue Mode” by Reuben Wilson (1970) ,“Hooterall?” by Haward Wales & Jerry Garcia (1971), “Heads” by Osibisa (1972), and “This is madness” by The Last Poets (1971).
Enjoy!
