Madchester – 24 Hour Party People

Probably one of the best, easiest and funniest way to discover the Manchester music scene between 70’s and 90’s and in particular the story of the legendary Factory Records.
24 hour party people is a 2002 British comedy-drama movie written by Frank Cottrell Boyce and directed by Michael Winterbottom. The film is a dramatisation based on a combination of real events, rumours, urban legends, and the imaginings of the scriptwriter, as the film makes clear. The plot gravitates around the key figure of Tony Wilson (played by a great Steve Coogan), a news reporter for Granada Television and the head of Factory Records. This label, co-founded with the brilliant producer Martin Hannett, can be considered the creator of Manchester sound discovering bands like Joy Division/New Order, A Certain Ratio, the Durutti Column and Happy Mondays.
