This post is our tribute to the huge figure of Mr. David “Thin White Duke” Bowie.
We chose the first Bowie’s 12’’ to have been released in UK, that is the funk-influenced version of “John, I’m Only Dancing”, a song originally issued in 1972, only as a single, not included in any official full-lenght album.
This single was released in 1979 (but recorded during the “Young Americans” sessions in 1974) and the original song has been rearranged in a captivating disco style, to match the disco-floor people in a thriving period for discotheques, and effectively the last 3 minutes of this version have a killer leading groove that drives you to an unchained dance!
Anyway, the song has another further version, recorded in 1973 in a slightly different arrangement featuring Ken Fordham on saxophone, that’s why it's commonly called the “sax version”.
Check it out the disco sound of Mr. Bowie!
R.I.P. and thanks for your music, David.
